IOI Loders Croklaan is pleased to announce positive outcomes of scientific research on Betapol® and potential effects on infant brain development. The outcomes suggest that OPO – the main component of Betapol®- has a positive physiological effect on brain function and physical development versus standard vegetable oils used in infant formula.

Some of the results of the research were today presented by Professor Sebastiano Banni of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Cagliari, Italy. The presentation was held on the IUNS 20th International Congress of Nutrition in Granada, Spain, which was attended by over 4000 experts from the field of nutrition.

Betapol®, invented by IOI Loders Croklaan, was specially developed to mimic the unique fat composition and structure of human milk. It is the closest natural match to breast milk fat available and has become the scientifically substantiated standard for high- quality infant formula.

The research shows that the fatty acid distribution within the fat molecule in infant nutrition may influence the way neuronal activity is regulated and optimized in the brain. It indicates that the molecular structure of Betapol® could positively influence brain function and physical development.
